Hartford Seminary deplores the murder of nine at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., and mourns the victims of this terrible crime of hatred.

This crime and the racism it represents are antithetical to the Christian gospel in every possible way, the same gospel that the victims were studying when they died. May all people of good will lift their voices in condemnation of this violent act as well as  the ideology of racism to which it is connected.
