A Message from President Heidi Hadsell

Dear Friends of Hartford Seminary,

During a momentous week in our nation’s history, I thought it was important to underline how deeply committed we are to the mission of preparing leaders for today’s multifaith and pluralistic world.

The work we do together, and with partners and friends around the world, brings us great joy, though it isn’t always easy. But now, more than ever, we are aware of the importance of interreligious education and of providing a place for people of different faiths to grow, pray and learn from each other. We are redoubling our efforts and our commitment to educating leaders for a culturally and racially diverse, multi-religious country and world.

As you may know, Hartford Seminary’s history dates back to 1834. We have seen our students through cultural crises, economic upheavals and world wars, and we fully expect to be around for many generations to come.

On Wednesday, we held an Open House for prospective students and saw once again how passionately our current students believe in our mission and how clearly they articulate it.

One young Cooperative Master of Divinity student from New Mexico told us that when he found Hartford Seminary online, he thought he was dreaming because our mission was something he could only imagine. We are unique, and we are uniquely needed at this moment in our nation’s history.

As we told our community this week, Hartford Seminary is a place of peace that welcomes everyone and shares God’s special concern for the most vulnerable. We will do our best to nurture our students as they, in turn, nurture others.

Keep us in your prayers,

Heidi Hadsell
President
