Trustee Umar Moghul divides his time between two worlds. One is academia, where he teaches courses on topics such as Islamic law and finance at UConn Law School, Michigan State Law School, and Hartford Seminary. The other is the corporate sector, where he advises clients around the world on issues as diverse as energy, health care, technology, real estate, transport and logistics, and business services.

His new book, “A Socially Responsible Islamic Finance,” brings those worlds together as it seeks to answer questions and serve as a reference while building dialogue among different communities and stakeholders.

In his talk at Hartford Seminary on April 25, he outlined several important concepts related to Islamic finance, including:

• Home finance
• Design thinking
• Forgiveness
• Contract theory
