The Rev. Dr. Donna Schaper Featured in New York Times Article

The Rev. Dr. Donna Schaper, who teaches in Hartford Seminary’s Doctor of Ministry program, was featured prominently in a New York Times article on May 19 about a time before Roe V. Wade when Chicago clergy members took steps to help women end unwanted pregnancies.

These religious leaders of many faiths were gathering in New York for a 50th anniversary celebration of a front-page New York Times story that profiled the “Clergy Consultation on Abortion.”

The Rev. Dr. Schaper was at seminary at the University of Chicago when she was recruited to help with the efforts. In the May 19 article, she states: “If you think you can take care of (more children), that’s wonderful, but when you’re poor and you’re going to decrease the life space for other children … I think that’s morally wrong because you’re not stewarding the life that is around you.”
