Professor Feryal Salem Heads to Singapore for Dialogue, Teaching

Professor Feryal Salem will spend the next week teaching and participating in dialogue with the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS).

MUIS, a longtime Hartford Seminary partner, works to bring about a greater understanding of Islam and Muslims among the multi-racial and multi-religious society of Singapore.

Professor Salem will also meet with Dr. Yaacob Ibrahim, who has three titles: Minister for Communications & Information, Minister in charge of Muslim Affairs, and Minister in charge of Cyber Security.

Her schedule includes:

  • Teaching a masterclass on “Harnessing Traditions for Contemporary Muslim Challenges: Reading Islamic Laws in the Formative Period.”
  • Media interviews
  • Dialogue on “Certificate of Islam in Context”
  • A conversation on “The Challenges of Female Scholarship in Islamic Studies.”
  • A public talk on “Islam and Diversity: Faith Communities of the Future”
