President Heidi Hadsell to Serve on Georgetown Panel about Religious Intolerance

Georgetown University will hold a panel discussion on Thursday, March 22, on “Religious Intolerance and America’s Image and Policies Abroad.” President Heidi Hadsell will be one of the panelists, and Imam Yahya Hendi, a Hartford Seminary Trustee and graduate, will be one of the respondents.

Other panelists include Farooq Kathwari, Co-Chair of the Muslim-Jewish Advisory Council, and CEO of Ethan Allen; and Rabbi David Saperstein, former U.S. Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom. The moderator is Nancy Lindborg, President of the U.S. Institute of Peace; and the other respondent is Rabbi Rachel Gartner, Director for Jewish Life, Campus Ministry at Georgetown.

Georgetown described the panel’s focus this way: “This panel discussion will examine the impact of subtle and overt forms of domestic religious intolerance on the U.S. image and ability to pursue our policy objectives abroad. Looking forward, what can the U.S. government and civil society do to shape the narrative, rhetoric, and policies in the United States to preserve these unique components of our power?”

Organizations sponsoring the event are: President’s Office for Global Engagement; Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs; Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service
Center for Contemporary Arab Studies; Center for Jewish Civilization; Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding; Georgetown University Campus Ministry.
