On April 21, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Council issued the following statement on behalf of Hartford Seminary:

Hartford Seminary acknowledges that the April 20, 2021, verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial is a significant step in the right direction, for justice and we hope for healing in our nation.

While we are pleased that there is accountability for the senseless killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, we also mourn and remember all those who have tragically lost their lives to police brutality in our country. We yearn for the day that justice prevails. May we all, together, work toward a more equitable nation, where the dignity of every human being is recognized, valued, and respected.
