New Name. Bigger Mission. Same Commitment.

On October 13, 2021, Hartford Seminary, founded in 1834, will change its name. The announcement of our new name and logo is a major milestone in a multi-year planning process with this ultimate goal:

By 2025, [Hartford Seminary] will be the nation’s leading resource for interreligious education, research, and peace studies, providing cutting-edge research and immersive learning opportunities that enable leaders and institutions to thrive in a religiously complex world.

Our intention is no less than to show the world a different vision of religion and how religion and peace in our world are inextricably intertwined. The changes under way will help us meet a national and global moment, a moment of need for religious peacebuilding and diplomacy, summoning a groundswell of donors, partners, students, and scholarship focused on deepening humanity’s understanding of different faiths and how we can flourish together.

The new structure that emerged from our strategic planning has four main pillars:

  • Interreligious and Peace Studies Programs
  • Executive and Professional Education
  • Religion Research
  • Global and Community Partnerships
