Join us on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. for the third in a series of sessions on Professional Careers in Chaplaincy.  Tuesday’s program on Prison Chaplaincy will feature Rabia Muhammad, chaplain at the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), and Usman Khan, Muslim chaplain at Cheshire Correctional Institution in Connecticut.  Both have studied at Hartford Seminary.

Chaplain Rabia Muhammad has been serving as a chaplain for 13 years at the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS). She began working for the Department as a chaplain providing Islamic classes and religious counseling at one of New York State’s female medium-security prisons, and now she serves at the Department’s headquarters in the Office of Ministerial, Family and Volunteer Services. Rabia earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) from SUNY Buffalo. She is currently completing the Hartford Seminary Islamic Chaplaincy Program.

Chaplain Usman Khan is a prominent Muslim chaplain and faith leader in New York’s Hudson Valley. He currently serves as the primary Muslim chaplain at Manhattanville College and Cheshire Correctional Institution in Connecticut. Previous service included Bard College and the Fishkill State Penitentiary.  He completed the 72-credit Islamic Chaplaincy Program at Hartford Seminary in 2015.
