This course will help chaplains clarify their roles as they represent religion on the edge of religious institutions.  Chaplains work in hospitals or universities or in the military or in a corporation or in a prison or jail.  There Muslims counsel Christians, Jews pray with atheists, Christians learn enough Hebrew to get by.  Chaplains often represent a unique perspective, one that says “spirit matters,” that there is meaning even in suffering, and that human beings deserve unconditional positive regard within an institution.  By dually affiliating, chaplains experience role confusion and need role clarity to function at their best.
