Please join us for this special two-part workshop on Monday, March 11, from 2-4 p.m. in the Meeting Room at Hartford Seminary.
Part One: RemovethePews.com: A Long Think, Done in a Short Way, about Bricks and Mortals and What Is New and Next
What does it mean to be proactive in removing the pews? The Rev. Dr. Donna Schaper will offer a primer about how to shake up the way we use our sacred sites.
Part Two: Man Proposes, God Disposes (and Sometimes Recycles): The Story of America’s Failed Skyscraper Church
In this interactive and richly illustrated talk, President Joel N. Lohr shares the story of a major church project in San Francisco that failed, and where it led. Questions will be raised for discussion about how buildings can function as both unhealthy foci—even idols—and yet important, indispensable sacred places of prayer, worship, and hope.
The cost for this workshop is $15, free for Hartford Seminary students. Light refreshments will be served.
If you would prefer to pay at the door or by check, please contact Susan Schoenberger at sschoenberger@hartsem.edu or 860-509-9519.
