Biography

Lucinda Allen Mosher, Th.D., is Faculty Associate in Chaplaincy and Interreligious Studies, working remotely form her office in northeast Florida. She teaching courses in chaplaincy, interreligious studies, comparative theology, leadership, and Christian-Muslim concerns. She is the co-director of the Master of Arts in Chaplaincy program, the senior scholar for Executive and Professional Education, the senior editor of the Journal of Interreligious Studies (published collaboratively by Hebrew College, Boston University School of Theology, and Hartford Seminary), and an affiliate of the Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations.

Concurrently, Dr Mosher is the rapporteur of the Building Bridges Seminar—an international dialogue of Christian and Muslim scholars under the stewardship of Georgetown University. She serves on the Episcopal Church’s General Convention Task Force to Coordinate Ecumenical and Interreligious Work, the board of directors of the Interfaith Center of Northeast Florida, and the advisory board of the Religious Education Association. She is also a fellow emerita of the Center for Anglican Communion Studies at Virginia Theological Seminary.

A prolific scholar, Dr. Mosher is the author of Personhood, Illness, and Death in America’s Multifaith Neighborhoods: A Practical Guide (2018); Toward Our Mutual Flourishing: the Episcopal Church, Interreligious Relations, and Theologies of Religious Manyness (2012); and the Faith in the Neighborhood book series (2005, 2006, 2007). She is the editor of The Georgetown Companion to Interreligious Studies (forthcoming); the award-winning Hindu Approaches to Spiritual Care: Chaplaincy in Theory and Practice (2020), with Vineet Chander; Deep Understanding for Divisive Times (2020), with Axel Takacs, Or Rose, and Mary Elizabeth Moore; nine volumes (seven with David Marshall) presenting Christian and Muslim perspectives on themes studied by the Building Bridges Seminar; and thematic issues for several peer-reviewed journals. Her publications also include a contribution to Christian-Muslim Relations: A Bibliographical History (University of Birmingham), plus numerous book-chapters, book reviews, and journal articles on multifaith matters.

Dr. Mosher has been a keynote speaker, workshop leader, or panelist in many venues in the US, UK, Turkey, Uganda, and Korea. An accomplished musician, her scholarly projects sometimes combine her expertise in interreligious understanding and theology with her training in the arts. Dr. Mosher holds degrees from Boston University, the University of Massachusetts (Lowell), Hartford Seminary, and a doctor of theology from the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church.
