Student Writing Resources

Hartford Seminary offers all current students the services of a Writing Consultant, free of charge.  Our Writing Consultant, Emily Holcombe, helps students improve their written English, organize writing and research papers, and follow the rules for footnotes and bibliography.  Submitted writing must be for current coursework at Hartford Seminary.

Please contact Emily by e-mail at and/or by text/phone at 860-707-4585. She is available weekly, and receives papers for review by e-mail attachment.  Emily will arrange the best method for meeting with each student electronically (written track changes, Zoom, Facetime).  Her hours are flexible.

Emily also offers writing classes each year, covering topics of general utility:

Introductions and Conclusions
Verb Usage  and Prepositions
Sentence Structure

Zotero is a research and citation manager. It can be installed on your computer to hold all of the full-text items you find, and citations for any books or print materials you are using. By syncing with the Zotero server, all of your research can also be available for you online. When the time comes to write your paper and insert citations and a bibliography, Zotero handles the correct citation format automatically for you.

If you want to attend a workshop on how to use Zotero, please contact Ann Crawford –
